Street Entertainers
The City is developing a new process for licensing street entertainment in Kingston. The public was recently invited to offer its input regarding preferences around kinds of street entertainers, whether or not auditions should be required and how many street entertainers should be allowed. The Your Opinion survey on this subject ended on June 20.
Under City of Kingston Bylaw No. 2006-213 (see p. 33 of the Bylaw to License, Regulate and Govern Certain Businesses), the City currently offers licences to any street entertainer upon request and no audition is required.
A public report on the findings will then be heard ahead of a regular monthly meeting of the Arts, Recreation and Community Policies Committee on Thursday, July 28.
The Kingston Culture Plan has a number of recommendations to enhance Kingston's cultural vitality to which street entertainment would contribute, including: creating an artful public realm and generating broadly-based opportunities for residents to engage in cultural activities.
