Draft Signs and Advertising Devices Bylaw
The City's Administrative Policies Committee is now seeking input from residents, business and property owners as it considers a draft bylaw that would control the type and placement of various signs and other advertising devices in the City of Kingston.
A draft of the proposed bylaw ("A Bylaw to Provide for the Prohibition and Regulation of Signs and Other Advertising Devices in the City of Kingston") is now available.
Online and written comments were accepted through Feb. 23, 2009, and a public meeting with the Administrative Policies Committee about the draft Bylaw is set for Tuesday, March 10 at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall, 216 Ontario St.
Copies of the draft Bylaw are also available in the City Clerk's Department at City Hall.
City staff is recommending the repeal of the current sign bylaws that apply to the former municipalities and the enactment of one consolidated by-law that will encompass the entire city, following public consultation. Staff is particularly interested in the public's view regarding the new regulations governing roof signs and billboards as the draft Bylaw states: "It is proposed that roof signs no longer be permitted in the downtown special regulation area along Ontario Street and the Business Improvement Area."
The City intends to pass this bylaw on Tuesday, Sept. 15.[ READ THE PUBLIC NOTICE]
