The Kingston Municipal Heritage Committee

The Kingston Municipal Heritage Committee advises Council on matters of cultural heritage and on all applications pertaining to a heritage property or a heritage district for the purpose of:

  • Designation or de-designation
  • Alteration, addition or demolition
  • Loans or grants
  • Easement agreements
  • New construction in heritage districts.

The Kingston Municipal Heritage Committee also: develops working relationships with owners of heritage designated properties; helps develop and maintain an inventory of the City's heritage resources; and helps develop municipal heritage conservation guidelines and significant criteria, and with municipal heritage policies, plans and programs.

MEMBERS:

Councillor Bill Glover, David Ariss, Robert Cardwell, John Coleman, R. Bruce Downey (Vice-Chair), John Duerkop, Michael Gemmell, Peter Gower (Chair), Christine Sypnowich and Donald Taylor.

The committee is composed of one member of the Planning Committee and nine members of the public.

ABOUT WORKING ON THIS COMMITTEE:

Your City may need your informed opinion. You should think about applying to sit on this committee if you have expertise, education and/or real-life experience with: restoring or renovating heritage properties, history, planning building projects, landmarks or historical sites.
