Memorial Centre Revitalization Advisory Committee

Current draft plans under consideration — by the public and City staff — call for the Memorial Centre site to include: new barns for the agricultural fair, a toboggan hill, walking paths with tree cover, multi-purpose outdoor court, a skateboard park, cenotaph and memorial gardens, new pools, an off-leash dog park, indoor track, ice pad, gymnasium, activity rooms, and work on the interior and exterior of the arena.

The intention is for the revitalized Memorial Centre site to function as a public community recreational facility or facilities that will also serve as a fitting living memorial to the men and women of Kingston who lost their lives during the two World Wars, the Korean War and other military engagements.

Creating a Veterans' Memorial park with a cenotaph was recommendation made by the Ad Hoc Committee to Recognize War Veterans and adopted by Council on Dec. 6, 2005. This recommendation also includes consideration of renaming of a street leading to the park or naming of a street or lane within the park.

Any recommended long-term financing and budget strategy for the capital construction and ongoing annual operating costs may include partnership/sponsorship opportunities.
