BIOGRAPHY

Elected to represent Kingscourt-Strathcona on Oct. 25, 2010.

Sandy Berg came to Kingston to pursue graduate studies at Queen's University in 1999 where she earned her Master's degree in biology. Berg's education and community service has afforded her the opportunity to live, work and volunteer on projects from the Canadian arctic to New Orleans, where she was part of the rebuilding effort following Hurricane Katrina. She has also studied ecosystems from the tip of the Baja Peninsula to the remotest sections of the Australian Outback.

Berg has been awarded the Paul Harris Fellowship by the Rotary Club in recognition of her work on the affordable housing issue and 'Service Above Self'. In 2009, she was nominated for a national leadership award by Habitat for Humanity Canada for her work building affordable housing across North America. More recently, she has been involved with Action for Neighbourhood Change, a committee focusing on successes and challenges in Kingston's north end, including the redevelopment of the Wally Elmer Neighbourhood Centre.

Berg is a Research Associate at Royal Military College where she works on several projects including examining stress in the deploying troops and methodologies of collaboration in human-computer interaction. Berg lives downtown with her partner and can often be found renovating or tending her garden.
