Greetings From Kingston Mayor Harvey Rosen
On behalf of my colleagues on city council, thank you for visiting the City of Kingston Web site. I hope it provides you with some interesting information about life in Canada's First Capital.
Citizens of Kingston are very proud of our place in the history of our great country. Kingston served as the capital of a united Upper and Lower Canada from February 1841 to June 1844. Canada's first Prime Minister and the architect of confederation, Sir John A. Macdonald, was a life-long resident of Kingston.
Kingston is a most unique community; embracing the legacy of those who have come before us, while actively promoting a vibrant, progressive and friendly city for our current and future citizens and visitors.
I strongly believe that Kingston is a wonderful place to live, work, study, play and visit. Our downtown is filled with numerous historic sites, inviting restaurants and many intriguing shops and boutiques; some that have operated in Kingston for generations.
The warm and creative spirit of our citizens can be felt in all corners of the city. Whether you are visiting Kingston for the first time or returning to a favourite local attraction, I extend you a hearty welcome.
