BIOGRAPHY

Ed Smith was first elected to Williamsville district on Nov. 10, 2003, and re-elected on Nov. 13, 2006.

Prior to becoming a councillor, he served on the city's Parking Advisory Committee, March of Dimes Advisory Board and on the Downtown Kingston BIA board of directors. Councillor Smith has also served on the Kingston United Way Cabinet for the past two years and as a volunteer on annual United Way campaigns for the past decade.

He received his Bachelor of Commerce from Queen's University in 1979 and worked as buyer and partner at the family-operated S&R Department Store from 1979 to 1993. In 1994 he co-founded the new Windmills Restaurant which he presently owns and operates.

Born in Kingston in 1956, Councillor Smith has four children ranging in age from 14 to 27, the youngest attending KCVI. Councillor Smith's wife, Kim McConnell passed away in 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer.
