Childhood Cancer Awareness Day
September 9, 2009

WHEREAS September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in the province of Ontario,

AND WHEREAS Kingston General Hospital is the tertiary center for pediatric cancer treatment for southeastern Ontario,

AND WHEREAS Childhood cancer is the leading disease-related cause of death for children,

AND WHEREAS 400 children are diagnosed with cancer each year in Ontario and at any given time, over 3,000 children require cancer care,

AND WHEREAS The pediatric oncology staff at Kingston General Hospital are committed to providing compassionate and state-of-the-art care to their patients,

THEREFORE, I, Mayor Harvey Rosen for the City of Kingston, Ontario, hereby proclaim September 9, 2009 as "Childhood Cancer Awareness Day" in the City of Kingston.
