PROCLAMATION

Kids for Kids Annual Hockey Tournament Weekend
March 26-28, 2010

Details:

WHEREAS in 1998 the "Storm on Ice Hockey Tournament" was instrumental in raising $350,000 for the Eastern Ontario Ice Storm Relief Fund;

AND WHEREAS the "Kids For Kids Hockey Tournament" succeeded the same organization to continue the funding for a total of over $600,000 from 1999 to 2009 distributed to the Kingston General Hospital Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit, the Kingston General Hospital Children's Cancer Clinic, the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation and the Kingston Boys & Girls Club Inc.;

AND WHEREAS the tournament has had a significant economic impact to the Kingston area of $2.8M annually, with 7,000 hockey players and family, and over 150 volunteers per year participating in the tournament, making this tournament the most successful in Eastern Ontario in raising money for local charities;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the City of Kingston, hereby proclaims the weekend of March 26-28, 2010 as the Kids for Kids Annual Hockey Tournament Weekend, thus allowing the tournament to sustain and enhance the economic viability of the Greater Kingston Area and continue the partnering and funding of charitable organizations. The proceeds of the 2010 Tournament will go to Kingston Boys & Girls Club Inc. and the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation to support the expansion of the Pediatric Inpatient Unit at Kingston General Hospital and the creation of a designated children's clinic in an expanded and renovated Cancer Centre of Southeastern Ontario at KGH.
