PROCLAMATION

CNIB Shades of Fun Day
May 27, 2010

Details:

WHEREAS CNIB passionately provides community based support, knowledge and a national voice to ensure Canadians who are blind or partially sighted, have the confidence, skills and opportunities to fully participate in life;

WHEREAS only nine per cent of Canadians know that overexposure to sunlight can cause long-term, irreversible damage to their eyes, putting them at a higher risk for AMD and cataracts;

WHEREAS it is appropriate that a day should be set apart to join thousands of Canadians from coast to coast to raise awareness about vision health;

WHEREAS CNIB provides vital programs and services, innovative consumer products, research, peer support and one of the world's largest libraries for people with print disabilities;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Harvey Rosen, do hereby proclaim May 27, 2010, to be the City of Kingston's CNIB Shades of Fun Day and urge our citizens and all city employees to slip on their favourite shades to protect their eyes from sun damage, and raise money in support of CNIB's vital programs and services for blind and partially sighted Canadians.
