Probationary rate: $16.31 hour

As bus operator your primary duties are to operate a variety of urban transit buses in a courteous and professional manner. Bus operation includes safe and defensive driving, collection of fares using an electronic fare box, issuing transfers, communicating system information to customers, enforcing policies and guidelines, adhering to published schedules and communicating with dispatch and other bus operators via 2-way radio. You will conduct pre and post trip vehicle inspections and expected to perform duties in heavy traffic and inclement weather conditions.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A Grade 12 diploma equivalent in education.
  • A valid Class "CZ" or "BZ" Driver's License.
  • Minimum six months related experience with customer interaction.
  • Experience driving a municipal transit bus an asset.
  • Demonstrated excellent customer service skills, interpersonal skills and effective communication skills are required.
  • Ability to multi-task and work effectively in stressful situations, recognize vehicle mechanical defects and be able to sit for long periods of time.
  • Availability to work on short notice.
  • Knowledge of road/vehicle safety precautions
  • Knowledge of city streets, bus routes and route timing.
  • A driving evaluation conducted on all candidates who are not presently bus operators with the City of Kingston.
  • As conditions of employment a clean driver's abstract and satisfactory CPIC (Criminal Reference Check) will be required upon offer of employment at your own expense.
