2010 Mid Term Committee Appointment

Kingston Environmental Advisory Forum (KEAF)
Balance of Term

The Committee assists and advises Council regarding environmental issues, aiding in the development of a broad-based environmental strategy for the City and the implementation of specific action plans relative to identified environmental issues.

We are seeking members who are familiar with environmental concerns, are committed to addressing local environmental issues, can serve on a project team for specific projects and can devote several hours each month to work on or research issues that come before the committee.

The Committee meets the second Monday of every month at 7:00 p.m. at Rideaucrest Home, 175 Rideau Street.

1 Committee Appointment until November 30, 2010

Municipal Election Compliance Audit Committee
4 Year Term (as noted hereunder)

Pursuant to the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, an eligible elector who believes on reasonable grounds that a candidate has contravened provisions of the Act, related to election finance, may apply for a compliance audit of the candidate's election finances. The Committee is responsible for considering all applications for compliance audits received relating to election campaign finances for the 2010 municipal election and any by-election during Council's term, and for deciding whether the application should be granted or rejected. The powers and functions of the Committee are set out in sections 81 and 81.1 of the Act.

Membership will be drawn from following groups:

  • Accounting and audit
  • Academic
  • Legal
  • Other individuals with knowledge of the campaign financing rules of the Act.

Members will be selected on the basis of the following:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of municipal election campaign finance rules
  • Proven analytical and decision-making skills
  • Experience working on a committee, task force, or similar setting
  • Availability and willingness to attend meetings
  • Excellent oral or written communication skills.

Note: To avoid conflict of interest, any individual appointed to the Committee must agree in writing not to undertake audits or preparation of the financial statements to any candidates seeking election in 2010. Failure to adhere to this requirement, will result in the individual being removed from the Committee.

Members must not be employees or offices of the municipality or local board, members of Council, or local board or any person who are candidates in the 2010 municipal election.

All meetings will be conducted in a manner consistent with the Municipal Act and Procedural By-Law.

3 Committee Appointment December 1, 2010 to November 30, 2014

To be eligible to serve on a Committee, you must qualify as a municipal elector by meeting the following qualifications:

  • a resident of the municipality, a non-resident owner or tenant of land in the municipality or the spouse of such non-resident owner or tenant;
  • a Canadian citizen;
  • at least 18 years old;
  • not legally prohibited from voting; and
  • not disqualified by any legislation from holding municipal office.
