Organization Structure: Corporate Realignment
The City's overall corporate goal of being a citizen-focused, results-oriented organization remains firm. Along with that goal, we have been working to achieve the strategic priorities of the current council and to prepare for the community's direction documented in the Integrated Community Sustainability Plan (ICSP). The ICSP (Sustainable Kingston plan) has been undergoing public consultation and will soon be finalized. The City will be a part of the ICSP but it is the community's plan; along with this organization, members of the community will be involved in its implementation. Departmental planning, together with direction from the new Council to be elected in October, will enable us to develop a new corporate strategic plan in 2011. In the meantime, we have work to do to follow through on the priorities of our current Council.
As we continue to work to further enhance service delivery, limit the level of future year taxation increases and decrease the backlog of capital works in progress, an organizational realignment effective June 1, 2010 is being implemented. The underlying principles of this realignment, as with the January 1, 2009 realignment, are organizational stability, simplicity and flexibility. This realignment is intended to build on our experience of working in cross-functional teams, developing organizational planning with an enhanced public and internal consultation focus in order to expand on our strengths and position us to deliver on strategic directions and Council's priorities in a sustainable manner.
The service groups led by the Corporate Management Team will continue to have a distinct, but inter-connected purpose. With a philosophy of continuous improvement, together with Utilities Kingston and our community partners, we will provide service that reflects our corporate values of teamwork, respect, integrity and pride.
