Study On LVEC Parking, Traffic Unveiled April 20

Two weeks after hearing the business case for a proposed $37-million Large Venue Entertainment Centre (LVEC) in Kingston, members of City Council along with the LVEC Steering Committee will hear the results of a draft parking and traffic study at an information session planned for Wednesday, April 20, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Portsmouth Olympic Harbour.

Everyone is welcome to attend, says Sheila Hickey, the City of Kingston's Director of Strategic Initiatives and Communications.

"The information presented Wednesday night (April 20) comes from a traffic and parking study prepared by consultant Arthur E. Gordon of Castle Glenn Consultants in Ottawa," notes Hickey. "There will be a question and answer period for members of City Council and the Steering Committee after the presentation, but we hope that members of the public come to the meeting as some meaningful information will be shared."

Hickey notes that for those who cannot attend the parking and traffic information session in person, the draft study will be posted to the City's Web site by 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, and comments are encouraged.

"We will set up a Web-based 'Have your Say' form at www.cityofkingston.ca that will capture any and all comments from citizens. It's the same approach we used quite successfully when the original LVEC task force report recommendations were issued."

On the heels of the April 20 parking and traffic session, a public meeting where citizens can have their say will be held, this time on Monday, April 25, in Memorial Hall.

"The meeting on April 25 is hosted by the LVEC Steering Committee so that the committee can hear delegations from the public regarding the proposed project. The meeting is not a question-and-answer session - it's a chance to formally offer your opinion to the Steering Committee."

Hickey says that anyone wishing to make delegation regarding the LVEC at the April 25 meeting needs to pre-register as a delegation.

"If people want to appear as a delegation April 25, they need to pre-register with the City Clerk's office by calling 546-4291, extension 1405. They can also send an e-mail request to LVEC@cityofkingston.ca. Each registered delegation is assigned a number to determine the speaking order at the meeting," she added.
