The City of Abbotsford's Smart Car will be rolling across Canada, beginning August 28 as part of the 100 MPG Challenge.
The challenge is the initiative of Abbostford resident, Keith Hebert, who is passionate about the environment and an enthusiastic supporter of the federal government's One-Tonne Challenge initiative.
Hebert is the owner of a Smart Car, which he voluntarily had wrapped to support the City of Abbotsford's One-Tonne Challenge initiative. Hebert has been driving the car all summer and has dramatically raised the profile of the City's initiative on the road and at community events.
According to Hebert, the first goal of the tour is to drive from Victoria to St. Johns and back on $500.00 fuel and/or achieve a fuel economy average of 81 mpg (3.5 L/100km) or better during the entire 16,000 kilometer trip. Another goal will be to achieve a fuel economy of at least 100 mpg (2.8 L/100km) on several tanks.
Hebert plans to visit several cities across Canada as an ambassador for Abbotsford and to raise awareness about the One-Tonne Challenge program and modes of transportation that reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Hebert will be documenting his journey at www.100mpg.ca.
