Pay Parking Tickets With Toys Dec. 13 And 14
Third Year Of Campaign Accepts Tickets Dated Nov. 1 And After
Drivers who have received a parking ticket in the last month can pay for it with a toy at City Hall (216 Ontario St.) from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 13 and 14.
Parking tickets received between Nov. 1 and Dec. 14 can be paid for with a gift for a child that is equal to or greater than the amount owed for the parking ticket (participants must provide a gift receipt). Tickets for unauthorized parking in a disabled parking space are not eligible.
Now in its third year, the Toys for Tickets campaign expects to again collect about 200 gifts to be passed on to the CHUM Radio Toy Drive. That's about $3,000-worth of parking tickets.
This year, the cities of Niagara Falls and Oshawa are following Kingston's lead and initiating their own Toys for Tickets campaigns.
Those who want to pay their parking fine with a gift (instead of using the Pay It Online service) are encouraged to think of children of all ages - and particularly of children aged 9 to 12 years-old - when they make a purchase. Recommended new, unwrapped toys include: knapsacks, games, cars, trucks, dolls and plush toys (no batteries, glue or war toys can be accepted).
