Snowbirds Celebrate 100 Years Of Powered Flight
A Special Show Will Take Place In Kingston's Skies On May 27
For the fourth year in a row, the Snowbirds will be soaring over Kingston's waterfront. The Canadian Forces' 431 Air Demonstration Squadron precision aerobatic team has scheduled its show for Wednesday, May 27 from 6 to 6:45 p.m. This year's show celebrates 100 years of powered flight in Canada.
Confederation Basin offers the best vantage point for the 45 minute show with the Kingston Fire and Rescue boat marking the centre of the show box.
Last year approximately 25,000 lined the shores of Lake Ontario at Confederation Basin and the Royal Military College to enjoy this spectacular air show.
The audience can expect to see the nine CT-114 Tutor jets performing formations such as the Big Vic, the Canada Goose, and the Card Nine as they roar over the harbour. The show will be broadcast by radio station 98.9 The Drive, so that the audience can listen to commentary by Captains Steve Thompson and Eric Willrich as the jets soar through them.
This event is organized by the City of Kingston and Downtown Kingston! who would also recognize the many local sponsors - including The Drive, Chum, the Ambassador Hotel, Four Points by Sheraton, Discount Car and Truck Rentals, StarTek, and KEDCO - who work hard to ensure Kingston continues to be a must-stop destination for large community events such as the Canadian Forces' Snowbirds' show.
The West Street boat launch ramp will be closed for launching boats from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on May 27 for the Snowbirds performance. Boaters are encouraged to use the launching facilities at Portsmouth Olympic Harbour instead.
