Public Invited To Kingston's First Sustainability Summit
Session Will Set Course For Integrated Community Sustainability Plan
The public is invited to participate in Kingston's first community Sustainability Summit. It consists of two upcoming public meetings at which participants will discuss and refine proposed priorities for an Integrated Community Sustainability Plan (ICSP) and exchange ideas on how the Plan might be implemented.
"It takes a community to build a community sustainability plan. Sustainable processes can only be created collaboratively - since what we use and generate in one dimension absolutely impacts others," says Linda Whitfield, Chair of the FOCUS Kingston Steering Committee. "This Summit is an open invitation for neighbours, social networks, cultural groups, businesses, organizations and individuals to take part in structuring a vibrant future for Kingston. One that is well-nurtured by sustainable processes so to ensure environmental responsibility, social equity, cultural vitality, and economic health."
A number of Kingston community leaders plan to participate in the Summit sessions, which are being hosted by FOCUS Kingston, the City's citizen-run strategic steering committee. The ICSP is intended to support the vision of making Kingston Canada's most sustainable city (see www.cityofkingston.ca/sustainability).
The first Sustainability Summit meeting is on Thursday, May 28, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Robert Sutherland Room at the John Deutsch University Centre on the Queen's University campus at 87 Union St. The Summit's wrap up session, the next afternoon, will present the proposed ICSP priorities, communication and engagement stratgies, and next steps. It is set for Friday, May 29, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Wallace Hall at the John Deutsch University Centre.
Kingstonians are welcome and encouraged to provide their thoughts and ideas on making Kingston Canada's most sustainable city at the upcoming Summit sessions.
