Steven Page & Art Of Time Ensemble Stop At The Grand Theatre
Former Barenaked Ladies vocalist Steven Page joins the internationally acclaimed Art of Time Ensemble for an evening that you don't want to miss March 3 at 8 p.m. at the Grand Theatre.
Kingston is one of only a dozen stops on the concert tour celebrating the release of A Singer Must Die, Page's first album since leaving his twenty year post as lead singer for the Barenaked Ladies.
Art of Time Ensemble was formed in 1998 by renowned classical pianist and Artistic Director Andrew Burashko. It is a collective that comprises some of the most unsurpassed classical and jazz musicians in Canada. Joined by Page, this performance is an eclectic blend of classical, world and contemporary music.
Page's song choices reflect his own intense interest in all kinds of music. The material ranges from songs by Canadians Leonard Cohen, Jane Siberry, Rufus Wainwright, The Weakerthans and Barenaked Ladies, to Radiohead and Elvis Costello and lesser-known but excellent artists like The Magnetic Fields, The Mountain Goats and The Divine Comedy. These songs are arranged by the brightest talents in Toronto's jazz and classical music fraternity and produced by Jonathan Goldsmith whose multi-decade musical resume is inspiring.
Now in its eleventh season, Art of Time Ensemble is one of Canada's most innovative and artistically accomplished music ensembles. Not content to rehash basic classical repertoire, Burashko and Art of Time Ensemble have become known for their daring interaction with the Toronto cultural scene. Their mandate is to give classical music the contemporary relevance and context it needs to maintain a broader audience to survive. Since its inception, Art of Time has steadily grown in reputation as an ensemble that undertakes and delivers programs that are at once thought provoking and compelling. Committed to finding new ways of blending classical music with other genres as well as other art forms, each Art of Time program is uniquely different in theme and content.
"Art of Time is simply one of the most interesting, innovative, original and eclectic arts companies in North America. Andrew Burashko is a brilliant artist whose curiosity knows no bounds. A season ticket to Art of Time is the best buy in town." - David Ferry, Director/Actor.
