City Adds New Projects To 2010 Construction Schedule
Residents Urged To Take Advantage Of Construction
Construction season is set to begin, and 2010 will see the completion of all the projects included in the 2008-2010 infrastructure plan - and then some.
A number of projects have been added to the City's original plan thanks to a $33 million infrastructure stimulus plan involving all three levels of government. These include work on:
- O'Connor Drive Reservoir & Discharge Header
- Bayridge Drive Trunk Watermain
- Sunny Acres Road & Front Road Watermain
A complete list of the City's construction projects will be available in this Friday's Kingston Whig-Standard or at www.cityofkingston.ca/projects. This special Whig supplement also includes some details of the reconstruction project on lower Princess Street being completed as part of the Downtown Action Plan.
The City wants homeowners in the areas affected by infrastructure improvement efforts to know that now is the time to request work to improve a home's water pressure, add a gas line, or replace a sewer line.
During the 2010 construction season, the City will complete:
- 50 km of road work (resurfacing/repair/widening)
- 15.6 km of watermain work
- 2.5 km of work on bicycle lanes (widening/creation)
- 8.3 km of sidewalk work (repairs/creation)
Utilities Kingston and City road construction crews coordinate their efforts to replace aging underground utility services in conjunction with replacing deteriorating road surfaces in the City.
