City Has New Season Of Hands-on, Interactive Learning

More Cultural Educational Programming Planned For 2010-2011.

The City of Kingston is again offering a comprehensive line-up of cultural educational programming for 2010-2011.

This year's Education and Community Engagement brochure highlights opportunities for students, educators and the community throughout Kingston. Included in the guide is information on the wide assortment of educational programming offered by the Grand Theatre, Pump House Steam Museum, MacLachlan Woodworking Museum and City Hall from April 2010 to June 2011.

LEARN ABOUT EARLY SETTLERS AT THE MACLACHLAN WOODWORKING MUSEUM

The MacLachlan Woodworking Museum offers seven programs this spring and fall that cover a variety of topics that will interest and educate students and teachers. The new Voyageurs program is of particular interest as it teaches participants about early Canada through the stories of a settler. Located in the beautiful setting of Grass Creek Park, many groups enjoy indoor and outdoor activities, as well as a picnic by the river as part of their visit to the museum.

PUMP HOUSE STEAM MUSEUM OFFERS SCIENCE LESSONS IN HERITAGE SETTING

At the Pump House Steam Museum interactive and fun program modules will let students explore the exciting world of science this spring. Featuring hands-on demonstrations, these easy-to-understand programs touch on a variety of subjects including matter, energy, and space systems. Visitors of all ages will be transported by the beautiful heritage building, the incredible model train exhibit, the beloved steam-powered boat 'Phoebe' and more.

THE GRAND THEATRE PRESENTATIONS IGNITE A LOVE OF PERFORMANCE

The Grand Theatre's school series includes seven different educational presentations for the 2010-2011 season, reflecting a variety of curriculum strands including the arts, languages and social studies. To complement the theatre experience, the Grand Theatre is developing curriculum linked resource materials that will be accessible to everyone on the theatre's website.

TOURS OF HISTORIC CITY HALL GROW APPRECIATION FOR KINGSTON'S ROOTS

One of the city's national historic sites, Kingston's City Hall, will once again feature educational tours throughout the spring and summer. City Hall is filled with fascinating treasures and artifacts, and all groups will receive an uplifting and informative journey through history led by expert tour guides.

ENRICH YOUR STUDENTS. ENRICH YOURSELF

Within this wide array of programming are great learning opportunities for teachers and students from Kindergarten to Grade 10, with topics that reflect the Elementary and Secondary Curriculum strands in the Arts, French as a Second Language, the Kindergarten program, Language, Science and Technology, Social Studies and more. The programs offered are a perfect way to enhance classroom learning and many of them complement multiple curriculum strands.
