Experience Living History In Kingston's Historic City Hall
Volunteer tour guides are busy sharing the exciting history of the Limestone City with visitors and residents alike. Filled with educational treasures and artifacts, City Hall guides offer an uplifting and informative tour, building historical awareness and civic pride.
This very popular program features approximately 30 dedicated volunteers who share the incredible history of the City of Kingston, the artifacts within City Hall, and the personalities of the past and present who make up Canada's First Capital.
City Hall houses the largest known portrait of Sir John A. Macdonald, Canada's first Prime Minister. The stained-glass windows of Memorial Hall depict the many battles of the First World War and art lovers will enjoy the "Historically Significant Canadians" artwork collection. Step back in time and experience the former jail cells and stop by "Royal Way," a tribute to the monarchy.
The guides will be available for tours in English every weekday until September 30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Fridays. Saturdays and Sundays in July and August, guides will be on hand from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. School tours and tours in French are available by appointment and must be booked in advance by calling 613-546-4291 ext. 1520.
A French and English flyer outlining the artifacts of Sir John A. Macdonald, Canada's first Prime Minister, is now available at City Hall reception. Visitors can view a rare collection of paintings, photographs and sculptures found throughout the building, as well as Sir John A.'s original writing desk. Also, a new self-guided tour flyer is available if visitors arrive outside the regular guided tour hours.
New volunteer guides are always welcome and are encouraged to contact us to find out more information at 613-546-4291 ext. 1520 or ecashman@cityofkingston.ca
