Restored Gaskin Lion To Be Unveiled July 9

The public has been invited to officially welcome home the restored Gaskin Lion at an official unveiling ceremony:

When: 1 p.m. Friday, July 9

Where: Macdonald Park - 1 King St. East (at the foot of Barrie St.)

Who: Councillor Dorothy Hector (representing the Mayor) and Sydenham Ward Councillor Bill Glover, Lubomyr Luciuk of the Ukrainian Canadian Club of Kingston, and Steve Serviss, Editor of the Kingston Whig-Standard (to announce winner of the Gaskin Lion photo contest).

What: Unveiling of the restored Gaskin Lion and a commemorative plaque.

The restored Gaskin Lion will be unveiled at 1 p.m. Friday in Macdonald Park. The Ukrainian Canadian Club of Kingston and the League of Ukrainian Canadians in Kingston covered the cost of the iron lion's restoration by MST Bronze Ltd. as a way of marking the 100th anniversary of Ukrainian settlement in Kingston. Editor Steve Serviss will announce the winners of the Kingston Whig-Standard's Gaskin Lion photo search contest, which encouraged Kingstonians and visitors to submit photos of themselves taken with the Gaskin Lion.
