Economic Prosperity
Definition
As part of the FOCUS Kingston Plan, an innovative six-week program of public
consultation was conducted in the summer of 2002. The program defined the vision
for the Economic Prosperity of our community through the year 2010. The first steps toward fulfilling this vision are the develop-ment and implementation of
business plans and the creation of partnerships that will enable us to leverage existing resources and grow government and private sector investment in our
community.
A great city of history and innovation is an irresistible place for people, pulsing with a distinctive lifestyle and authentic flair, buzzing with ideas and celebrated for its crowning achievements. We see Kingston being such a city!
A New Vision for Economic Prosperity
In 2010, our Kingston is a place where quality of life means individuals have the ability to meet their basic needs and achieve personal goals, hopes and aspirations. Our community supports enriching social interactions, includes all residents in community life, shares its resources, and maintains a safe, clean environment.
Our economic prosperity balances economic, environmental and social goals. We have jobs and opportunities. We are a caring community, a safe, cohesive city that embraces diversity, and are good stewards of our environment.
We claim a stronger and better future through our talented people and research expertise, our urban and rural landscapes, our heritage buildings and precious waterfronts. Our city is built on a human scale, accommodating a wide variety of work routines and lifestyles. It has parks and healthy neighbourhoods supported by transportation networks that include walking and biking paths. Our children find Kingston to be a place where they can fulfill their dreams, find jobs and opportunities, and live comfortable, rewarding lives.
