Pet Licences & Renewals
City Bylaw 2004-144 requires the registration of all dogs older than 20 weeks living in any part of the city, and all cats older than 20 weeks living in the urban area.
A pet identification licence is to be renewed for Jan. 1 of every year. Pet owners receive new tags when they renew pet licences.
Pet identification tags allow strangers and Animal Control officers to identify a pet that has gone astray. When a pet licence is renewed, your pet's records are automatically updated. Your pet's record includes his or her address, rabies vaccination, tattoos, and other identifying information.
Want to know more? We have answers to many animal and pet control questions. Fee schedules are at the bottom of this page.
PET TAG RENEWALS
If you have already registered a pet, you will receive a Pet Tag Renewal Reminder before the end of the year. The reminder will list all pets associated with your name and address.
You can now renew existing registrations online. You'll need the Renewal Notice Number from your Pet Tag Renewal Reminder and a Visa or MasterCard to use the online eCity/Pet Tag Renewal service. (Note: A shipping and handling charge of $1.50 will be applied to your invoice.)
