ANSWERS
Q: What programs are available?
A: First, you should sit down with your child to determine what they are interested in participating in. Your child's interest in a particular activity is the key to a successful program match.
Contact the P.R.O. Kids Coordinator at 613-546-4291 ext. 1718 for guidance about activities based on your child's age, interest and schedule.
A: Kingston children and youth up to 18 years of age who are from low income families and are unable to afford registration fees are eligible for the P.R.O. Kids Program.
Q: How do I know if we qualify?
A: If you are unsure, call the P.R.O. Kids Coordinator listed above to discuss. P.R.O. Kids does not require financial information, however applicants must provide a reference to verify need.
Q: Who can be a reference person?
A: The reference person is someone who is independent of your family, but is familiar with your situation and can verify that without the support of P.R.O. Kids you would not be able to access the program or activity. Reference person could include teacher, social worker, clergy, doctor or coach.
Q: Will everyone know my child participates through P.R.O. Kids?
A: The P.R.O. Kids Coordinator, the organizer or contact for the activity, perhaps the coach or instructor will know. We ask that information be kept confidential so your child can participate as any other child.
Q: What are there guidelines for applicants?
A:
- The P.R.O. Kids program was established to support Kingston children & youth and is an initiative of the City Of Kingston Department of Community Services & Cultural Services Division.
- Applications are processed as they are received - no one gets preferential treatment.
- P.R.O. Kids allows children to access only one activity each season.
- The service is for children and teens who are not currently participating in other paid recreation programs. It is not intended to supplement participation in more than one activity at a time.
- The parent or guardian may be responsible for registering directly with the identified community program partner organization once P.R.O. Kids has made the match. It may vary depending upon timing and the partner organization.
- If for some reason your child can no longer participate, please contact the P.R.O. Kids Coordinator so another child can fill that space.
- If the parent/teen encounters any problems or difficulties with the program please contact the P.R.O. Kids Coordinator at 613-546-4291 ext. 1718. The Coordinator will attempt to resolve it as soon as possible.
