How was my 2012 interim tax bill calculated?
A: Your 2012 interim tax bill is based on 50 per cent of your 2011 final tax bill. If applicable, past due amounts shown on this tax bill include pre-calculated interest, which is due if your account was not paid in full on or before January 31, 2012. Actual interest will be charged to tax accounts for past-due amounts on February 1, 2012. If you made a payment on your account between the billing date and January 31, 2012, please call Customer Service at 613-546-0000 for an updated balance before paying your 2012 interim tax bill.
Does the City have any Property Tax Assistance Programs?
A: Yes, the City has the following Property Tax Assistance programs for ratepayers. Please note that ratepayers may need to meet specific criteria.
- Seniors Property Tax Grant Program ($100): For senior citizens receiving the Guaranteed Income Supplement (G.I.S.) under the Old Age Security Act. Deadline for 2012 applications is April 30, 2012.
- Tax Deferral Program (up to $1,000): For property owners receiving benefits under the Ontario Disability Support Program or the Ontario Works Act, or senior citizens receiving a Guaranteed Income Supplement. Deadline for 2012 applications is April 30, 2012.
- Tax Increase Deferral Program for Assessment Related Increases: For low-income senior citizens receiving the Guaranteed Income Supplement or low income disabled persons receiving assistance under the Ontario Disability Support Program Act or the Family Benefits Act of Ontario. Deadline for 2012 applications is April 30, 2012.
- Rebates for Vacant Units in Commercial/Industrial Property: Deadline for the year 2011 application is February 29, 2012.
- Registered Charity Property Tax Rebate: Registered charities that are tenants in a commercial or industrial class property are eligible for this rebate. Deadline for the year 2011 application is February 29, 2012.
