DESIGN AND TESTING UNDERWAY

The City of Kingston, through Utilities Kingston, has retained the design team of J.L. Richards & Associates Limited and XCG Consultants Ltd. to complete the design for upgrades to the Ravensview Water Pollution Control Plant.

Originally constructed in 1957, the sewage-treatment plant is located south of Highway 2, along the St. Lawrence River, approximately 4.5 km east of the Cataraqui River.

Through early 2005, Utilities Kingston, in conjunction with the design team, will test secondary treatment products from two leading supplies of the Biologically Aerated Filter (BAF) technology. The products will be tested at the Ravensview site, using actual sewage and small-scale equipment before the supplier is chosen. These tests will also allow Utilities Kingston staff to become familiar with this technology.
