INVISTA CENTRE PROJECT ARCHIVE:

A Message From The Steering Committee Chair

The following is a message from Kevin George, Chair of the Multiplex Community Centre Project Steering Committee.

The Multiplex Community Centre Project concept was first brought to the attention of Council during the Arena Capacity and Expansion Study process. Amongst other key recommendations the study suggested that the City identify and assess locations for a three pad arena complex. It was also recommended that the City investigate opportunities to develop a capital and operating partnership for the facility.

Kingston City Council held a priority setting session in the fall of 2004 and one of the identified priorities was the Culture and Recreational needs in the Community. Following this session Council chose to establish a Steering Committee to seek input from the stakeholder groups and members of the public. The input would help the Steering Committee to better understand the needs of the community and the potential sites for such a facility. The Steering Committee is looking for assistance in identifying what needs exist in the community that could be incorporated into a campus style project.

The Committee is in the process of forming a Community Advisory Group which will work to identify the needs and report their findings to the Steering Committee. We would like very much for all interested parties to have a say in the development of a Multiplex Facility and invite your Comments. If you would like to attend a meeting of the Steering Committee we would like very much to hear from you. Our meeting dates will be posted here on the Web Site and can be made readily available by calling City Hall.

We look forward to your participation in this Project as we see it as a challenge not only for Council but for the Community as a whole. The participation by all will make this a success that we can all be proud of for years to come.
