Construction
The facility opened to the public on May 30, 2008. This is an impressive building that PEAK Engineering, BBA Architects, the City of Kingston along with user groups and individuals in the Kingston community can be very proud of. Groups and individuals who have toured the INVISTA Centre were wowed by the technology and design of this people friendly place.
Operations, marketing and naming rights
The financial elements of the Naming rights were approved at the May 6, 2008, Council meeting. Sponsorship for the facility and the four individual rinks will bring net revenue of $536,676 over a five year period. We are very happy to have corporate sponsors who share our vision of a community centred facility focused primarily on youth programming. The Multiplex officially became the INVISTA Centre at the June 3 Council meeting following public consultation on the suffix. The feature rink will carry the name of the Ambassador Hotel. Rona, SWISH Maintenance Ltd and the Kingston Whig Standard have each sponsored a community rink.
The information desk at the front of the facility is now in full swing with new front line staff ready to serve. The information desk will be staffed daily from 6:30 am to 10:30 p.m. available to answer any questions. Customer service is a top priority and you can expect to have a friendly welcome to the building to assist with questions or assign keys for dressing rooms. Booking staff have also been relocated to the INVISTA Centre and are busy with programming of events. You can look forward to the September 2008 Fall Leisure Showcase in its new home at the INVISTA Centre.
The opening events were very successful with a large turnout from the public. Free public skating on Friday evening and Saturday was very popular. Mary Lambert did two performances and the room was filled with delighted children. The mini rink on the second floor was a busy spot for those lucky enough to get a free mini stick and ball. The free hot dogs at the concession stand were another hit of the evening.
We hope you and your families will enjoy this fabulous facility for years to come.
