Q: How much does it cost to park?
A: The following rates apply to municipal lots during event times when rates are in effect. Signs will be posted indicating event rates are in effect.
- Parking in Zone 1 (approx. 200 metres, or a two minute walk to the Centre): $5.00
- Parking in Zone 2 (approx. 400 metres, or a five minute walk to the Centre): $4.00
- Parking in Zone 3 (approx. 600 metres, or a10 minute walk to the Centre): $3.00
All municipal lots (except Chown and Hanson parking facilities) have Pay & Display meters programmed with the appropriate flat rate. The Chown and Hanson parking facilities will remain attended from Monday to Friday until 9:30 p.m. and Saturdays until 6:30 p.m. While attendant is on duty, the rate is $1 per hour, and the first hour is free. When attendant is not on duty, the rate is $3 (loonies and toonies only) at the exit box.
These event rates will apply to all municipal parking spaces within 600 metres of the Centre as of 6:30 p.m. on event nights and 12:30 p.m. for a Sunday or holiday afternoon event.
Please note that the attended lots accept cash payment while the attendant is on duty and a $3 exit fee — payable in exact change (loonies and toonies) — when the attendant is not on duty (parking charges are always paid upon exiting an attended lot).
On-street parking will be free when event rates commence. There is no charge for on-street parking after 5:30 p.m Monday to Saturday and all day Sundays.
Q: How do I pay for event parking?
A: Here are the Payment Instructions:
To pay with a Credit Card:
- Insert credit card.
- Press "Maximum Time" button twice.
- Press green "Print Ticket" button.
- Display the receipt on your dash, face up.
To pay with cash/coins:
- Deposit coin for hourly daytime rate, if applicable.
- Deposit payment for event rate (valid 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.)
- Press green "Print Ticket" button.
- Display the receipt on your dash, face up.
Note:
- Early payment for an evening event can be made any-time after 2:30 p.m. Some lots allow for earlier purchase, depending on the maximum time in the lot. Please refer to signage in each lot for details.
- Early payment for a Sunday matinee can be made any-time that day.
Q: Do I need exact change to use the Pay and Display lots?
A: You don't need exact change, but it helps. The Pay and Display charges can be paid in change — quarters, loonies and toonies — or by VISA or MasterCard credit card. Whatever change you insert into a Pay and Display machine counts toward your time credit. You will not receive change. User instructions are posted on machines.
Q: Do event rates apply to me if I have a City of Kingston parking permit?
A: Municipal monthly parking permits are valid from Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. From September 1, 2009, to June 30, 2010, permit holders wishing to park in the municipal lot for which their permit has been issued, can do so without paying the event rate. Please be aware that all other permit conditions remain in place, including that permits are non-transferable. Permit holders must display their hang tag as normal. Signs are posted at the entrance of the City lots on the morning of event dates.
Q: Where can I find accessible parking?
A: There are many accessible parking stalls within 200 metres of the Centre: nine on King St. between Barrack and Queen Streets (free of charge), four on Barrack St. between King and Wellington Streets (free of charge) will be designated for persons holding a valid disability permit (permit-holder must be present) during events. Fourteen accessible parking spaces are available in the Frontenac Lot across from the K-Rock Centre at King and Barrack Streets. Event rates apply to accessible parking spaces in event designated lots — except for the accessible spaces in the Frontenac Lot which cost $3 at the meter.
Many more accessible parking spaces are located in lots within 600 metres of the Centre.Q: Where can I drop people off?
A: There is designated area to drop people off on the south side of Barrack Street between Ontario and King Streets. As a courtesy to people with disabilities and seniors who need to use the drop-off area, able-bodied event-goers should plan to be dropped off and picked up close to the Centre rather than right at the lobby doors.
How many parking spaces are in the area of the Centre?
A: There are approximately of 2,500 parking spaces in lots within a 10 minute walk (approximately 600 metres) of the Centre. Of these, more than 1,500 spaces are in municipal lots.
Also, more than 550 on-street parking spaces are located within 600 metres of the Centre and will be free for use during evening and Sunday events. Parking is prohibited on Barrack Street between Ontario and King Streets, and on King Street between Place d'Armes and Barrack Street.
A: London's John Labatt Centre has it, so does Toronto's Air Canada Centre, so does New York's Madison Square Gardens. Like these successful downtown venues, the Kingston Regional Sports and Entertainment Centre takes advantage of a dispersed parking model.
Dispersed parking means that event-goers can park at existing public and private parking lots and on-the-street rather than at the Centre itself. Kingston Transit buses will be added to accommodate large events.
Plus, dispersed parking means that event-goers will plan their parking when they plan their evening and likely make stopping at other Kingston destinations — hotels, shops, museums, sites, restaurants, or Market Square — part of their overall plan.
Pay and Display meters accommodate pre-event and event rate payment in one transaction (see "What do I do if I arrive before event rates are in effect?"). This allows drivers the freedom to park and travel on foot around beautiful downtown Kingston. Shop, dine or tour the town before heading to the K-Rock Centre to enjoy an event.
A: As of Sept. 1, 2009, the taxi stand is located on Queen Street between Wellington Street and King Street. The accessible space will remain available on Queen at Wellington Street.
Q: What do I do if I arrive before event rates are in effect?
A: You can arrive early for an Evening event and pay for your day rate and event rate at the same time following the instructions under "How do I pay for event parking?" (above). Early payment for an evening event can be made any-time after 2:30 p.m. Some lots allow for earlier purchase, depending on the maximum time in the lot. Please refer to signage in each lot for details. Early payment for a Sunday event can be made any-time that day.
