KINGSTON REGIONAL SPORTS & ENTERTAINMENT CENTRE FUNDRAISING
Fundraising Campaign Information
On April 16, 2009, the donor display at the K-Rock Centre was unveiled by Mayor Harvey Rosen and donor Michael Davies. This event marked the official conclusion of the fundraising effort for the Centre which raised a total of $1,370,405.
Mayor Rosen acknowledged that the funds raised fell short of the $2 million goal of the campaign, saying, "Although we fell short of the goal set at the outset, I am sincerely proud of our collective efforts."
The occasion was also used to offer the key to the city to Brit Smith, Honourary Co-Chair of the fundraising campaign for the Centre - and a Kingstonian who has made a beautiful habit of contributing his time, effort and financial resources to countless community efforts (most recently for the Grand Theatre, a World War II plaque in Memorial Hall, local hospitals, the United Way and Queen's University).
Brit Smith, Honourary Co-Chair of the "Let's build the Kingston Regional Sports & Entertainment Centre together" campaign is presented with the Key to the City by Mayor Harvey Rosen.
On May 1, 2007, the City of Kingston launched the Let's Build The Kingston Regional Sports and Entertainment Centre Together campaign to raise at least $2 million in support of the centre's construction.
With Mayor Harvey Rosen as campaign chair, the fundraising drive is also buoyed by its honourary co-chairs, Olympic medal-winning hockey player Jayna Hefford and Kingston Business Hall of Fame inductee Brit Smith.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
The budget for the $46.1 million Kingston Regional Sports and Entertainment Centre calls for a minimum of $2 million in public support, mainly to fund the latest and highest standards in environmental design and to enable the fullest public participation.
You can download the donation form above to print and submit your own contribution. Here's how your gift will be recognized:
- All gifts to the Let's Build the Kingston Regional Sports and Entertainment Centre Together Campaign will be acknowledged in writing.
- Gifts of more than $10 will receive a receipt for income tax purposes and every gift will be acknowledged with a certificate of thanks from the honourary chairs.
- Gifts of $100 or more will be recognized in a "Founding Donors" display to go near the Centre's ticket office.
- A gift of $500 can buy a plaque recognizing the donor - or a designate - on one of the 1000 seats at the "100" level of the Centre.
- Other gift levels include: Suite Level for donors of $100,000 or more, Club Level ($25,000 - $99,999), Stadium Level ($5,000 - $24,999), and Floor Level ($100 - $4,999).
- In cases where areas or features are 'named' in recognition of a gift, the length of the naming opportunity will be 10 years.
Donors can choose to direct their pledged funds toward the following:
- To ensure that the Centre meets the criteria to be certified as a Silver level LEED Canada Facility. LEED, short for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a green building rating established by the Canadian Green Building Council. (See the Canadian Green Building Council website for more information on LEED certification.)
- Toward preserving and highlighting Kingston's sports and military heritage at the Centre
- to add special community features to the facility, including: art, a community suite, a community billboard and outside benches.
