Memorial Wall
The Veterans Memorial Garden at the Memorial Centre on York Street will feature a wall engraved with the names of those who died in active service during the First and Second World Wars and Canada's other campaigns, engagements, missions and wars since 1914.
The City has a researcher working to compile a comprehensive list of names, but is seeking the help of Kingstonians to assist the accuracy of the list. The City will add the names of further individuals as they are identified and validated.
The current draft of the list is available for review at right (divided by combat engagement). It was culled from existing lists on plaques in local churches and secondary schools, current First and Second World War memorials, the Royal Military College and Veterans Affairs Canada.
Is There A Name Missing?
If you have a relative or friend who called Kingston home and who died in active service in a conflict between 1914 and today, and his or her name is not listed (see download at right), please contact researcher Peter Gower at greatwar@sympatico.ca or 613-546-8538.
Please include the person's full name, rank, unit of service, address, approximate date of death and any other particular knowledge you may have regarding the omitted individual's service with the armed forces, merchant marine or other support service.
Submitted names will be verified against all available historical and military records.
Questions about this effort can be directed to Peter Gower or to Kristine Hebert, Parks & Open Space Planning Coordinator, 613-546-4291, ext. 1256.
