Skating in the Square


Springer Market Square Rink Status:
Thursday, March 11: The skating rink at Springer Market Square has closed for the season.

Skating is free at Springer Market Square. Public restrooms, a warming/change area and lockers are available in the Market Wing of City Hall.

RINK HOURS

The rink at Springer Market Square at King and Brock Streets is open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily from December to March (weather-permitting).

This locker room/change area is in the lower Market Wing of City Hall. Residents are reminded to bring their own locks.

FACILITIES

Accessible public washrooms, a change/warming area and small lockers for personal items and shoes (bring your own lock) are available in the lower Market Wing of City Hall via the North and South courtyards. An accessibility ramp to the lower level Wing is available at the North entrance off Brock Street.

RINK RULES

In order to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all Kingstonians using the ice, please review and observe the following rules for public skating on the Square's rink:

  • The City of Kingston strongly recommends that all skaters wear a protective helmet during Public Skating Sessions.
  • Chairs, sleds, strollers, pylons and other obstructions are not permitted on the ice surface during public skating sessions.
  • All participants must wear skates while on the ice surface.
  • Food and drink are not permitted on the ice surface.
  • Hockey is not permitted during public skating sessions.
  • Games such as tag or racing or power skating will not be permitted during public skating sessions.
  • Long blade skates are permitted during public skating sessions. Please ensure that you maintain appropriate speed on the ice. Plastic tips are required on end of blades.
  • Inappropriate language or behavior will not be tolerated during public skating sessions.
  • Refrain from carrying children on shoulders or in arms while skating.
  • Refrain from throwing snow or ice.
  • Wheel chairs are permitted. Person controlling the chair must wear ice skates. Please keep wheelchair along the boards.
  • Please skate at a sensible speed, in direction chosen by Skate Patrol Staff (no skating backwards)
  • Adhere to the directions of staff members.
  • Leave Ice surface immediately when skating session is over.
  • Report all accidents, injuries, misconduct or hazardous conditions to arena staff on duty promptly.
  • There is a risk of injury associated with ice skating. Persons using this rink do so at their own risk.

BRINGING A GROUP TO SKATE?

Notify us if your group plans to skate at Springer Market Square: Although we do not accept private bookings for schools or corporations for the Springer Market Square Rink, groups are more than welcome to skate anytime during the posted hours. In order that your large group gets the maximum enjoyment from their outing, teachers and group leaders are advised to notify Recreation and Leisure of their planned arrival so that we can make you aware of other large groups already expected.
