Nominate a Garden

Celebrate your green-thumb's effort to keep Kingston beautiful: nominate your favourite garden.

Registration deadline for 2011 is June 24 (May 27 for school entries)

A registration form for this year's Kingston Blooms competition is available for download at right, or call Community Events Coordinator Sue Hitchcock at 613-546-4291 ext. 1716 to request a form by mail.

Entry categories include: Small Garden, Medium Garden, Large Garden, New Garden, Garden Art/Structures, Senior Garden, Commercial Garden, Community Garden and Education Institution Garden

More Than Just Flowers

Communities in Bloom is more than just flowers! Communities in Bloom is a program that celebrates communities that continue to grow and flourish through participation in the national program. It is important that the City continues to embrace the Communities in Bloom program and celebrate our continued efforts in enhancing the quality of life and sense of civic pride for our residents and visitors.

Kingston Blooms Judging Takes Place July 5 to 10

Local volunteer judges will be visiting nominated gardens July 5 to 10. Gardens will be judged on the following criteria: Wow factor, Design, use of Plant Material, Maintenance, and Environmental Awareness. Gardens will be score out of a possible 100 points, and the 3 top point getters in each category will be invited to join us at the Senior Staff Mess, Royal Military College of Canada on August 11 when we announce the winners at our Annual Kingston Blooms Awards.

Kingston Back in National Competition

Trained volunteer judges travel across Canada during July and August to evaluate communities and the overall contributions of the municipality, businesses & institutions and residents, including volunteer efforts, in regards to the following eight criteria: Tidiness, Environmental Action, Heritage Conservation, Urban Forestry, Landscape, Turf and Groundcovers, Floral Displays and Community Involvement.

Judging for the national competition takes place August 11 and 12. This year's National Judges are Evelyn Alemanni and Steve Preston (see biographies at right)
