Community Gardens Policy

The Community Garden Policy (available for download and comment at right) will guide the development and operation of community gardens.

Your Opinion comment on the draft Policy was accepted until Jan. 14.

To receive a hard copy of the draft Policy, please call Liz Cartwright at 613-546-4291, ext. 1308 or e-mail lcartwright@cityofkingston.ca.

Entrenched in the proposed policy is municipal recognition that community gardening is "a valuable activity that contributes to sustainable urban living, community development, health and well-being, positive social interactions, environmental education, protection and use of open space, and enhanced food security."

The Policy is meant to structure collaborations between the City and non-profit groups and neighbourhood associations to fruitfully develop, operate and manage community gardens on municipally owned lands.
