Leisure Swim Regulations

The City of Kingston's Recreation and Leisure Services is committed to safety.

Water Diapers

Children who are not toilet trained must wear tight-legged plastic pants or water diapers. No disposable/cloth diapers permitted.

What to Wear/No Outdoor Footwear

Proper bathing attire required. No street clothes, shoes or undergarments. To protect your children's feet and maintain a clean facility, outdoor footwear cannot be worn in the pool enclosure or on the pool deck. A viewing gallery is available to watch lessons.

Persons wishing to take photos at recreation facilities must request permission. Contact the Registration Desk for further information.

Change Room Age Requirements

Children 7 years of age or older are required to use the change room of their own gender. If this is not suitable, see facility staff so that appropriate accommodation can be arranged.

Personal belongings and lockers

Please take precautions with your belongings and use lockers. We cannot be responsible for lost or stolen items. Lockers are available for daily use and you must provide your own lock and remove it at the end of the swim. Locks remaining on lockers after the facility closes will be removed.

Child Pool Entry

Children 9 yrs. and under must be accompanied by a person 16 yrs. or older. Children must remain within arm's reach and in the shallow end. Maximum 3 children/caregiver.

Swim Test

Demonstrates comfort in the water and the ability to swim. Involves swimming 2 widths continuously. Note: Aquatic staff reserve the right at any point to have individuals of any age perform a swim test for safety reasons.

Help Prevent Pool FoulingsHelp Prevent Pool Foulings

Pool closures are occasionally required as a result of foulings (body waste or other contamination). If a fouling occurs during a lesson the remaining portion of that lesson will take place on the pool deck. Pool fouling results in delays in programming and pool shut down (2 - 8 hours).

  • Don't feed children two hours prior to swimming.
  • Take children to the washroom prior to swimming.
  • Ensure that all children who are not toilet trained use swim diapers.
  • Consider how your child is feeling and do not enter the pool if your child is feeling ill.
