Municipal Housing Strategy
Shaping The Future Of Housing
In Kingston & Frontenac County
The final draft documents of Phase 1, Phase 2 and Phase 3 of the Municipal Housing Strategy, available at right, were the subject of a Your Opinion comment opportunity that ended on June 10.
This last draft of the Strategy, developed based on public and stakeholder consultations held throughout the fall of 2010 and early 2011, consists of the Final Summary Report and the final drafts of Reports on:
- Phase 1: Housing Demand and Supply Analysis provides the key analytical foundation for identifying the area's housing needs.
- Phase 2: Housing Policies and Actions provides an assessment of the current policy context and establishes recommended policies and actions aimed at addressing gaps to meet needs in the short and long terms.
- Phase 3: Housing Strategy Implementation Plan provides a comprehensive framework for addressing each of the recommendations in the Strategy and identifies stakeholders responsible for implementation.
Staff intend to report back to Arts, Recreation and Community Policies Committee on Thursday, June 23, with the final Municipal Housing Strategy recommendations.
Background
A public meeting on the Municipal Housing Strategy was held at the end of March, 2011, and a Your Opinion comment opportunity on the Strategy Phase 2 Report's identified housing needs and proposed recommendations ran until April 4.
In the fall of 2010, two sets of consultation sessions were held — one in October and one in November — to gather feedback from the Kingston and Frontenac County communities on their ideas, options, strategies and solutions for addressing local housing needs.
