ROLLING ON THE RUNWAY

Kingston Airport hosted Rolling on the Runway on Saturday, May 8. Participants rolled down the runway on bicycles, skateboards, wheelchairs, strollers, scooters, in-line skates or walking shoes.

Passenger Terminal Renovations
Improve The Flow Of Passengers

Recent renovations to the terminal building are now complete. The renovations have improved the flow of passengers by opening up the baggage claim area and enhancing the public waiting area. New wayfinding signage creates a focal point for the facility, which now offers free wireless service — Wi-Fi — a real bonus for business travelers. The Kingston Airport handles an average of 80,000 passengers annually, with seven daily scheduled passenger flights provided by Air Canada.

Main Runway Repaved With Federal Funds

Mar 07/08 > Kingston Airport's main runway is to be paved over the next two years thanks to $1.6 million in funding awarded for the project under the Government of Canada's 2008-2009 Airports Capital Assistance Program (ACAP). Kingston (Norman Rogers) Airport is in the process of creating an updated master plan, with a goal of providing guidelines for airport development over the next 20 years. The latest draft of the plan is being presented to the Environment, Infrastructure & Transportation Policies Committee at its September 19 meeting. Canada Updates Luggage/Carry-On Security

Transport Canada has amended security requirements for passengers who may need to bring limited quantities of liquids, gels and aerosols onboard aircraft. As of Nov. 6, passengers will be permitted to bring such materials through security screening at Canadian airports provided that the items are in containers of 100 ml (3.4 oz.) or less, instead of the previous 90 ml (3 oz.) limit. The containers must also fit comfortably in one clear, closed and resealable plastic bag with a capacity of no more than 1 litre (1 quart). Children Can Take The Airport Tour!

The Airport Tour Program was designed primarily for children to visit the Kingston Airport, learn about air travel and get a behind-the-scenes view of the operation of the terminal. Airport tours can be arranged by calling 613-389-6404.

Airport Connects Travellers With Cash

The Kingston Airport now has an automated banking machine on site. Located in the concourse, the machine will help travellers caught short of cash at the last minute. Also available on site are two change machines.
