Security Measures: Liquids, Gels & Aerosols

Transport Canada has amended security requirements for passengers who may need to bring limited quantities of liquids, gels and aerosols onboard an aircraft. As of Nov. 6, passengers will be permitted to bring such materials through security screening at Canadian airports provided:

  • That the liquids, gels or aerosols are in containers 100 ml / 100 g (3.4 oz.) or less.
  • The containers must be placed in one clear, closed and resealable plastic bag with a capacity of no more than 1 litre (1 quart). The approximate dimensions of a one litre/quart bag are 15.24 cm by 22.86 cm (6 in. by 9 in.) or 20 cm by 17.5 cm (8 in. by 7 in.).

One bag per passenger will be permitted.

Liquids, gels and aerosols include, but are not limited to, hand lotions, cleansers, moisturizers, suntan lotions, antibacterial gels, contact lens solution, shaving cream, perfume and cologne.

Not permitted through pre-board security screening:

  • Unsealed, open or opaque plastic bags of any size with liquids, gels or aerosols in containers of any size.
  • Liquids, gels or aerosols in containers larger than 100 ml / 100 g (3.4 oz.).

Exempt from restrictions: Passengers must declare all such items to security screening authorities. Additional screening could be required.

  • Baby formula, baby food and milk or juice if travelling with children two (2) years of age and under.
  • Prescription and essential non-prescription medicines.

No bag required for exempt items.
