Accessible Parking
NOTICE: PRINCESS STREET CONSTRUCTION
AFFECTS SOME ACCESSIBLE PARKING SPOTS
Due to the lower Princess St. construction a few accessible parking spots will be affected These spots are identified as:
- The space in front of the Royal Bank on Princess street (west of King) is not available weekdays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- The space in front of the former S&R Department Store on Princess Street between Ontario and King Streets is not available during the construction period.
- Two accessible spaces in the parking lot at Queen and Ontario Streets have been shifted within the lot to create an entrance to the lot beside the former S&R Department Store.
Alternative accessible parking spaces:
During construction in the Princess Street project area, alternative accessible parking spaces can be found at:
- Princess Street west of Bagot Street
- Wellington Street, south of Princess Street
- Brock Street, beside City Hall (east of King Street)
- Brock Street, east of Wellington Street
- Municipal parking lots at Queen and Ontario Streets, Brock and Wellington Streets, and Brock and Bagot Streets.
- temporary accessible parking spaces have been created in the lot at King and Queen Streets (near the King Street entrance)
Parking spaces designated with a "wheelchair" symbol are reserved for persons with a registered accessible parking permit. This permit, issued to an individual, entitles the vehicle in which it is displayed to be parked in a designated accessible parking space. The permit must be displayed on the dashboard or sun visor and can be moved from vehicle to vehicle.
Designated
accessible parking spaces are located throughout the City — both on street and in
municipal garages and lots. Accessible parking spaces are identifiable by the use of the "wheelchair
" logo painted on the asphalt, posted signs and/or blue covered meter hoods. All
accessible spaces are clearly marked.
The set fine for improper parking in an accessible space has is $300.
OBTAINING AN ACCESSIBLE PARKING PERMIT
To qualify for this permit, the individual must be unable to walk unassisted for more than 200 metres in 8 minutes or less without causing serious difficulty or danger to safety or health. A licensed physician, osteopathic physician, chiropractor, physiotherapist or occupational therapist must certify the applicant's condition on the permit application. There is no fee for an Accessible Person Parking Permit.
Applications for permits are available at all Driver and Vehicle Licence Issuing Offices or may be requested by mail from:
