Parking Regulations

The City of Kingston has established parking bylaws to help ensure that:

  • City streets remain safe and accessible for the whole community;
  • There is appropriate turnover and availability of parking for citizens, customers, visitors and patients;
  • Parked vehicles do not interfere with street maintenance and operations;
  • Vehicle traffic works in conjunction with non-auto modes and bus transportation.

Parking Bylaws

DOUBLE PARKING

Double Parking is not permitted as it causes traffic congestion and unsafe streets. Set fine: $35.

NO STOPPING ZONES

"No Stopping Zones" are not designated for vehicle traffic — you many not stop nor park your vehicle in these designated areas. Please watch for signs. Set fine: $25.

BUS STOPS (ZONES)

Bus Stops (Zones) are reserved for both municipal and school buses for the safe loading and unloading of passengers. Stopping or parking your vehicle in a bus stop will result in fines. Set fine: $35.

TRUCK LOADING ZONES

Truck Loading Zones are reserved for commercial vehicles during the days and hours posted. Set fine: $30.

BOULEVARD PARKING

Boulevard Parking refers to vehicle parking on the road allowance that is property from the roadway up to, and including a portion of the front yard at each residence in the City. Set fine: $25.

ACCESSIBLE PARKING ZONES

Parking spots/meters designated with a wheelchair symbol are reserved for people with a registered accessible parking permit. These spaces are conveniently located to assist those with mobility issues. Set fine: $300.

RESTRICTED TIME ZONES

Signage on-street indicates restricted time zones in certain areas, such as residential neighbourhoods. These time restrictions allow for street sweeping and reduce traffic flow in residential neighbourhoods. Set fine: $25.

NO PARKING AREAS

In "No Parking Areas", designated with signs, you may not leave your vehicle. No parking zones allow for brief stopping of vehicles for loading or unloading passengers. Set fine: $25.

PARKING NEAR INTERSECTIONS

Parking is not permitted within a corner of any street or intersection for a distance of 6 meters back from the corner on each intersecting street in metered areas, 9 meters on side streets in non-metered areas, and 23 meters back from the corner on each through street in order to ensure maximum visibility for moving traffic. Set fine: $15.

WINTER PARKING REGULATIONS

No parking is permitted on any City street between December 1st through March 31st, between the hours of 1 a.m. - 7 a.m. Set fine: $25.
