Residents Vote On Traffic-calming;
Seven Streets To Add Speed Humps

A majority of residents on the affected sections of seven streets have voted in favour of
adding speed humps to calm traffic in their neighbourhoods. In order for the City to
proceed with the traffic-calming measures, a minimum of 51 per cent of the homes in an
affected area needed to respond to the survey — and 60 per cent of those
who responded had to indicate they were in favour.

New Projects Added To Construction Schedule

Construction season is set to begin, and 2010 will see the completion of all the projects included in the 2008-2010 infrastructure plan — and then some.
A number of projects have been added to the City's original plan thanks to a $33 million infrastructure stimulus plan involving all three levels of government.

Princess & King Streets Work Begins March 1

The reconstruction of lower Princess Street and King Street and will begin March 1 and end
June 30. Shops will remain open and accessible in the reconstruction area. The City and
its contractors, Corcoran Excavating, will have public liaisons working with businesses
and the public throughout the project.

Bikeways, Share The Road Guide Aid Cycling

The City is now working on the first phase of its On-Road Bikeway Implementation Plan to
build a more visible cycling network to encourage more Kingstonians to choose cycling as
their mode of transportation. Over time, the individual routes will be joined to form one
complete on-road bikeway network.

Three Minute Idling Bylaw Is In Effect

In an effort to reduce the city's share of green house gasses, Kingston's expanded Idling
Bylaw took effect July 1. Drivers idling for more than three minutes may be subject to a
fine. The scope of the Bylaw has been expanded to apply to the entire city
and to remove summer temperature exemptions.
