Crossing The Street With Pedestrian Signals

A Pedestrian Countdown Device has been installed on Sir John A. Macdonald Boulevard at Elmwood Street. Find out how it works.

The City has implemented a Pedestrian Courtesy Crossing on Rideau Street in front of the Rideaucrest Seniors Residence and Rideaucrest Towers.


Image of a Don't Walk signal. The "WALK signal means you may begin crossing the roadway. If there is a push button on the pole, you MUST push it to receive a "Walk" signal.

Image of a Don't Walk signal. The "FLASHING DON'T WALK" signal means if you are already in the crosswalk, you have time to finish crossing the roadway; if you are at the curb, stay there - there is not enough time to cross the roadway, wait for the next "WALK" signal.

Image of a Don't Walk signal. The "SOLID DON'T WALK" signal means that traffic will soon begin to move in the opposite direction and through the crosswalk.
