Reduced Speeds in School Zones
There has been limited success with the installation of reduced speed limits in school zones. In the City of Kingston, on Taylor Kidd Boulevard west of Bayridge Drive, slight decreases in vehicle speed have been noted, especially during periods of heavy enforcement.
A recent study completed by the City of Saskatoon concludes that posted speed reductions can be marginally effective in school zones as long as there is proper education and aggressive enforcement.
The Engineering Division will therefore consider reduced speed limits (40 km/hr) in school zones on a request basis.
