Kingston Transit: My Ride

Courtesy Seating is Safe Seating

Ride kind: make sure safety seats go to those who need them most

Kingston Transit's Courtesy Seating Policy (available at right) is intended to make the City's buses safe and accessible to all passengers.

The courtesy seating area, located at the front of the bus directly behind the driver, is intended for:

  1. Passengers with mobility limitations (especially those using wheelchairs, scooters or walkers).
  2. Passengers with disabilities and seniors.

If this area is available, passengers with other needs, such as caregivers travelling with a collapsible stroller, pregnant women and passengers travelling with a collapsible bundle buggy, may use this space provided they vacate the space for those passengers identified in 1 and 2 above.

Wheelchair users have priority

Kingston Transit guarantees only accessible buses will be used on bus routes that have been designated as Easier Access. Accessible buses include a designated area to safely accommodate riders using wheelchairs, scooters and/or walkers. Customers using these mobility aids have priority use of this area and all other passengers must vacate this area if they require it.

STROLLERS AND BUNDLE BUGGIES MUST BE COLLAPSIBLE

Kingston Transit riders must use collapsible strollers and bundle buggies. For safety reasons, doors and the aisle must not be obstructed.

Those using a stroller or bundle buggy may occupy the Courtesy Seating Area if available. Caregivers must set the stroller brakes and hold the stroller safely in place. If Courtesy Seating Area is not available, or if the space is required for a person using a wheelchair, the caregiver may:

  • Proceed safely to the rear of the bus holding the stroller firmly at all times. The stroller may stay open provided it does not obstruct the doors or aisle.
  • Remove the child from the stroller and collapse it. The stroller may be stored between the seats.
