Kingston Transit's My Card: "Tap and Go"

Boarding the bus with My Card

My Cards are interactive Kingston Transit ride payment cards that will replace tickets and monthly passes — and make using Kingston Transit easier. Just tap My Card on the fare box when you get on the bus and away you go.

My Cards make buying and storing your rides convenient — and safe:

Re-loadable Multi-ride Cards are registered under your name to protect your purchased trips in case your card is lost or stolen and can be loaded at many of the vendors listed below.

Monthly Cards are eligible for an income tax credit.

The 10-ride My Tickets card is disposable and is a handy option for the occasional rider.

ANSWERS:

What are My Cards?

A: My Cards are a convenient way to pay to ride Kingston Transit. My Card is an interactive card — also known as a Smart Card — that can be loaded with pre-paid trips or monthly pass information. When you get on Kingston Transit, tap My Card on the fare box to "pay" your fare.

How do My Cards work?

A: My Card knows and remembers whether you are an adult, or a youth, or a senior and automatically tallies your fare when you tap My Card on the fare box when getting on the bus. The way your trip fare is tallied depends on the kind of My Card you are using. (See "kinds of My Card" next.)

What kinds of My Card are available and how much will they cost?

A: Note: Please see the table in the Fare Structure section for the fares. If you are living on a low income, you may be eligible for an Affordable Transit Pass under the Municipal Fee Assistance program.

Choose the kind of My Card that works for you:

Multi-ride Ny Card (reloadable) Multi-ride Card (Reloadable): The Multi-ride My Card can be loaded with as many rides as you desire. It is a good choice for frequent Kingston Transit riders. Because your reloadable Multi-ride Card can be registered under your name, it can be returned to you if you lose it (if someone turns it in), or the remaining trips that were stored on it can be transferred to your replacement reloadable Multi-ride Card as soon as you report the loss.
[SEE FARES]

My Tickets (disposable) My Card My Tickets (10-ride card): The disposable My Tickets card is loaded with 10 rides. Once you have used up the rides, the card can no longer be used. It is a good choice for the occasional Kingston Transit rider.

Monthly My Card Monthly Card: Your photo ID is required on the Monthly My Card. It allows unlimited travel on Kingston Transit and is a good choice for commuters and those who take Kingston Transit frequently.

Like the reloadable Multi-ride Card, the Monthly Card, if lost or stolen, can be replaced and its remaining value transferred onto a new card.

What if I need a transfer?

A: My Card makes obtaining a paper transfer unnecessary as smart technology knows that you are transferring. This means that when you transfer to a bus on a different route and tap your My Card, the smart technology will identify that you boarded another bus and will not charge your card for another ride. Note: The policy remains that you must make all your transfers within a one hour period of time. People paying with coins receive a transfer from the fare box.

Can I pay my fare on the bus?

A: Yes. Kingston Transit buses accept fares paid with coins, but bills are not be accepted as fare boxes cannot accept paper money and operators cannot make change. [SEE FARES]

[TOP]

Can I still use bills as payment?

A: No. Bills are not accepted as fare boxes cannot accept paper money and operators cannot make change. All fares must be paid with coins or My Card passes.
