Public Workshop: Proposed New Kingston Transit Routes

Update: With the December 7 workshop over, stay tuned for announcements of more public consultation opportunities regarding Kingston Transit's route review and redesign.

Bus riders — and would-be riders — are invited to review and discuss proposed Kingston Transit routes at an upcoming presentation at St. Lawrence College on Monday, Dec. 7.

"If you have an idea to improve bus routes in Kingston, we need you at this meeting," says Sheila Kidd, Director, Corporate Asset Operations. "We want more people riding Kingston Transit. We want to make taking the bus an easy option for cost and environmentally-conscious Kingstonians heading to work, school, shop or play." Kidd points out that transit routes need to be responsive to new development in the city and planning them must be a continuous process.

WORKSHOP DETAILS

  • Where: Room 44200, St. Lawrence College (King Street and Portsmouth Avenue). Participants can enter through the main entrance (closest to the bus stop), take the stairs or elevator to the fourth floor and follow the signs.
  • When: Monday, Dec. 7. Workshop registration — 5:45 p.m. to 6:20 p.m. Welcome and presentation of proposed Kingston Transit routes — 6:20 p.m. (this timing accommodates those arriving by bus). Workshop — 7 p.m.

Participants are encouraged to take Kingston Transit to the workshop and to use the new Kingston Transit Trip Planner to plan their route to St. Lawrence College. Free parking is available in designated spots after 5 p.m.

Professor Jeff Casello, of the Waterloo Public Transit Institute, will present proposed new base Kingston Transit routes for public input. After the presentation, workshop participants will have an opportunity to draw their suggested feeder-route designs. The workshop input will be used to direct efforts to improve Kingston Transit's route network and infrastructure over the next three to five years beginning in 2010. Additional public workshops are planned over the course of this ongoing effort to build an optimum transit system for Kingston.

All residents are welcome at the workshop, but organizers would like participants to register by Dec. 3 so that they can have appropriate supplies and seating on hand.
