Kingston Area Recycling Centre

The Kingston Area Recycling Centre (KARC) is a Material Recovery Facility which means we collect, sort and process recyclable material for shipment to other companies, where it is made into various products. We also operate a centralized composting facility, the Household Hazardous Waste depot and the Kingston East Landfill Site

HISTORY

Since its inception in 1989, KARC has undergone a number of significant changes. The facility was originally established as a separate corporation to fulfill the waste diversion requirements of four area municipalities — the former Kingston, Pittsburgh and Ernestown Townships and the former City of Kingston. In 1998, as a result of municipal restructuring, KARC became part of the "new" City of Kingston, falling under the umbrella of the Operations Services.
