Apply to serve on a City board or committee

November 11, 2014 -

Become one of the people who makes Kingston work

In January, 2015 Council will be appointing interested residents to fill vacancies on various City committees and boards. Kingston's committees provide Council and staff with input on a wide variety of subjects through discussions, presentations, and recommendations. The City welcomes citizens who represent the diverse backgrounds of our community to serve as a member of a committee as it offers residents the chance to volunteer unique skills and knowledge to strengthen our shared sense of community.

On Wednesday, Nov. 26, the City will host a Volunteer Recruitment Information Sharing Event in Memorial Hall, City Hall commencing at 6 p.m. At this event, the public will have an opportunity to meet elected officials, senior staff, speak informally with Chairs and Vice Chairs and receive formal presentations regarding the focus and mandate of each committee or board seeking applicants. A question and answer period will follow the presentations.

Please Note: To be eligible to serve on most committees or boards, you must qualify as a municipal elector. Specifically:

  • You must be 18 years of age or older;
  • You must reside in the municipality, or be an owner, tenant of land (or spouse of same);
  • You must not be prohibited from voting; and
  • You must be a Canadian citizen.

A description of the mandate of each committee or board as well as background and helpful skills is available on the Current Openings page. The application deadline is Friday, Dec. 12, at 4:30 p.m.

The application period has now ended.
